The debts of 35 to 40 billion euros to banks, tax authorities and social security funds that were frozen during confinement will gradually fall due next year; this will be one of the biggest challenges of the post-pandemic period – namely paying these huge arrears alongside the new obligations that will arise from income tax, single property tax (ENFIA), etc.
The degree of pressure will increase and should peak at the beginning of next year. As of January 1, there will be virtually no more debt on the ice or grace periods. The grants of the two âGefyraâ programs will have been paid, the period of zero payment of the previous tax and social debts will have ended, and the contributions of the cheap loans of the State will begin to fall due, and there will be no no more suspended loan obligations.
In addition, thousands of appeals to the so-called Katseli law for the protection of debtors will have been dealt with by the courts and verdicts will begin to be executed, while the first thousands of agreements within the framework of the amicable settlement of debts will have been reached. , that is, the start of payment of contributions up to 240 installments will also have started.
The number of citizens who took on new debt during the pandemic is expected to exceed one million. Some 400,000 people have had their loan installments frozen and will have to pay a higher monthly payment.
Debts to tax and pension funds have been suspended for more than 750,000 individuals and businesses, while a similar number of professionals have created debts by obtaining one or more cheap government loans thanks to the packages. “Deposit to be returned”.
Of course, these amounts often overlap, as many people have borrowed from banks and also have arrears to the state and pension funds.
All of these payments should coincide with the current contributions (such as income tax, ENFIA, etc.) which, from 2022, will be spread over the whole year. So there will be months in 2022 when some people will have to make four or even five payments.
While until February 2022, taxpayers will still pay their income tax and ENFIA contributions for 2021, from March 2022 ENFIA payments for next year will begin, and income tax brackets will follow. .
